Ports
Qatar is home to ports near industrial areas. These ports connect the country to the world, thanks to state-of-the-art global systems and technologies that enhance Qatar’s logistical capacity, enhance the growth and diversification of the national economy, and improve the state’s competitiveness, and its position as a regional trade hub.
Qatar is home to three port that include:
Hamad Port
Located in Mesaieed city south of Doha, Hamad port covers an area of 28.5 square kilometers and has a cargo terminal with a 1.7 million tonnes capacity per year, a grain plant with 1 million tonnes capacity per year, and a station that can accommodate 500,000 cars annually.
The port also includes a customs clearance area for cargo, a 110m observation tower, a ship inspection platform, and multiple naval facilities. It also houses and a number of other facilities, such as warehouses and mosques, as well as a medical facility.
As part of Qatar’s efforts to help boost non-oil exports and encourage manufacturing, a free zone has also been established adjacent to Hamad Port. The port has made significant achievements at regional and global levels in a short period of time, thanks to its comprehensive capabilities, modern facilities, and advanced systems. The port enhances Qatar’s logistics capacity, transforming the country into a regional commercial hub and bolstering trade between Qatar and the world.
Al Ruwais Port
Located in the north of the country, Al Ruwais port was revamped to align its infrastructure and services with international port standards. The navigation channel has been dredged and deepened to 5 meters, new docks with a depth of 7 meters and 6 berths with lengths of 1414 meters were constructed to accommodate commercial vessels. The channel and port basins will be deepened and expanded further to 10 meters during the final stage of port development. These efforts aim to facilitate entry of all types of small and medium size vessels, as well as yachts, thereby increasing trade with other countries in the region.
Doha Port
Due to its strategic location in the heart of Doha and its proximity to Souq Waqif, the capital’s most popular and populous market, museums, and tourist attractions, Doha Port has become a tourist destination for luxury cruise liners and yachts. It provides a wide range of passenger facilities and services to its visitors, including expatriates affairs and customs offices, foreign exchange offices, taxi and bus stands, and city bus tours, as well as Qatar Duty Free, coffee shops, and waiting areas for passengers and crew of cruise ships.
