Msheireb Downtown Doha (MDD) is a modern sustainable city built in the heart of Doha catering to residential, commercial and retail buildings. It is strategically located near Hamad International Airport, Grand Hamad Street and Souq Waqif, a preferred shopping, dining and cultural destination for both locals and tourists. Msheireb means ‘a place to drink water’ in Arabic.

Construction of the QAR 20 billion project, which began in 2010 covers an estimated area of 31 hectares and comprises 800 housing units and more than 100 commercial and hotel buildings. It also includes numerous social and service facilities such as mosques, schools, and a parking area catering to more than 10,000 cars. The number of visitors to MDD is expected to exceed 50,000 a day. The MDD project comprises five major neighborhoods are to be completed in phases:

Diwan Amiri Quarter

The Diwan Amiri Quarter is adjacent to both the Amiri Diwan and Al Koot Fort. It consists of three stone-clad buildings (the Diwan Annexe, the Amiri Guard Building and Qatar National Archive where Qatar’s heritage records and documents are stored). 

The Diwan Amiri Quarter project overlooks prominent landmarks such as the Corniche, Msheireb Prayer Ground and Souq Waqif.

Heritage Quarter

The Heritage Quarter is the historic part of the MDD project where restoration has been made to the traditional courtyard houses and Eid Prayer Ground which date back to the first decade of the last century. Moreover, construction work on the Msheireb Mosque is underway to restore the symbol of authenticity and history to this  neighborhood.

Retail Quarter

The largest of all five quarters in MDD project features a giant shopping mall (Galleria), cinema, exhibition halls and kids entertainment zone.  
Sikkat Wadi Msheireb, a pedestrian-only street lined with the best cafés and restaurants, surrounds Retail Quarter. It also features Barahat Msheireb, a large yard with an automated mobile roof.

Residential Quarter

Located amidst beautiful green landscapes and parks, the Residential Quarter combines commercial and residential properties that overlap with the adjacent Retail Quarter. The Residential Quarter residences and apartments are expected to be luxurious, 

elegant, and stand side by side with towers that contain office spaces, a school, shops and a mosque. Rail and public transportation services will also be provided to the Quarter.

Business Gateway

Business Gateway houses several office buildings spread over 193,000 square meters that contain various banking, personal and governmental service centers. 

Business Gateway, which lies close to the Retail Quarter will in the future feature a metro station, meetings and conferences convenience facilities.
